The Real Bird family's annual reenactment of the Battle of the Little Bighorn is preparing for its largest event yet in 2026. Located on the banks of the Little Bighorn River in Crow Agency, Montana, the reenactment is unique for its use of Native riders portraying both sides of the 1876 conflict.

The event provides a more visceral and accurate depiction of the "Greasy Grass" terrain than many scripted Hollywood versions. For the sesquicentennial, organizers are expanding the program to include additional educational components, cultural demonstrations, and camping facilities.

The reenactment occurs on private land adjacent to the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, giving visitors a complementary perspective to the National Park Service's interpretation of the site.
